The study, a Participatory Action Research (PAR,) explored how preadolescent Latina girls in a Boston public school constructed their girlhood and other gender issues. But more focused, were the reflections of the team who conducted the study. All foreign born teaching students assisted by the research to understand the many issues in public education in the USA today.

The article describes how language is the gatekeeper in science-learning, and in teaching science to English language learners. The uses of English revealed the dynamics of the cultural powers of language and the culture of power of science among race, ethnicity, gender and class dimensions for teachers.

Connecting languages: the use of the portfolio as a means of exploring and overcoming frontiers within the curriculum
Linguistic diversity and intercultural competence were the topics of study in this article. The study describes a teacher education program that suggested a portfolio-oriented language teaching and learning approach that promotes plurilingualism. The study analyzed the teachers' attitudes towards the program at its starting point utilizing a questionnaire. At the end of the program, teachers wrote their comments in form of reflections on the portfolio-oriented language program, professional development and teaching approaches
