Challenges in Teaching for Critical Multicultural Citizenship: Student Teaching in an Accountability-Driven Context
The purpose of this paper is to examine how three preservice teachers who supported the tenets of critical multicultural citizenship negotiated the constraints they encountered when trying to teach for this kind of citizenship in an urban school classroom. Participants in this study negotiated constraints, mostly contextual, by de-emphasizing teaching to the test, finding ways to sneak in critical and multicultural social studies knowledge and contemporary issues into the curriculum, and incorporating multiple perspectives as a way to increase critical inquiry while teaching the facts necessary for standardized tests.

Themes in the Research on Preservice Teachers’ Views of Cultural Diversity: Implications for Researching Millennial Preservice Teachers
This paper traces themes found in the research on preservice teachers’ views of cultural diversity. The article seeks to draw insights that inform education researchers interested in interrogating and unpacking views about diversity expressed by today’s millennial college students. Findings suggest that although recent studies report a shift toward more positive attitudes about teaching culturally diverse students, persistent issues plague preservice teachers’ understanding of cultural diversity.

This qualitative study explores strategies of resilience exhibited by novice teachers employed in high-needs areas. Findings indicated that teachers utilised a variety of strategies, including help-seeking, problem-solving, managing difficult relationships, and seeking rejuvenation/renewal. Furthermore, the researchers recognised that resilient teachers demonstrated agency in the process of overcoming adversity.
