This study aimed at identifying the overall trends in beliefs about language learning of pre-service English as a foreign language (EFL) teachers in the Turkish context, thereby filling a gap in locally situated research. The findings reveal that the prospective Turkish teachers in this study hold a variety of beliefs about language learning. The findings strongly suggest that teacher education programmes should encourage prospective teachers to explore their beliefs, pay attention to any unrealistic beliefs or misconceptions they may hold, and challenge such beliefs with new information and knowledge.

This paper reports on a critical constructivist study of racial identity and performance among 13 Black, traditional-age students enrolled at three different colleges, two historically Black and one predominantly White. The findings highlight (1) the role of internal community pressure, (2) the ways in which racial performance dominated the students’ discussions of their racial identities, and (3) the intersection of internalized racism and sexism.

Using Online Error Analysis Items to Support Preservice Teachers’ Pedagogical Content Knowledge in Mathematics
This article describes an online tutoring system that was used to give preservice teachers an opportunity to analyze and remediate student work. Through a careful analysis and rich discussion about different suggested remediation strategies, preservice teachers were exposed to a variety of techniques that could be used to help correct student errors. The author argues that this online error analysis items challenged preservice teachers to analyze, diagnose, and provide targeted instructional remediation intended to help mock students overcome common error patterns and misconceptions.

Pupil Aggressiveness and Perceptual Orientation towards Weakness in a Teacher who is New to the Class
This study aimed to investigate possible relationships between aggressiveness in pupils and the extent to which pupils will seek signs of weakness in teachers who are new to the class. The authors also explored whether gender moderated the relationship between aggressiveness and the perceptual orientation studied. The results reveal connections between aggressiveness and perceptual orientation towards weakness in teachers. The results also support the conclusion that interest in weakness is generally connected to aggressiveness, mainly proactive aggressiveness, regardless of gender.

This study examines how preservice teachers conceptualize popular depictions of the profession or issues related to the “extended professionality” of teaching. The authors sought to determine the effectiveness of the controversial documentary, Waiting for Superman, in fostering student interest and engagement with issues related to the extended professionality of teaching. The findings illuminate a need for broaching issues of extended professionality within teacher education programs.

“Touch It Lightly”: Israeli Students’ Construction of Pedagogical Paradigms About an Emotionally Laden Topic
The purpose of this study is to examine the pedagogical paradigms that preservice teachers construct regarding the teaching of the Holocaust and the identification of trends in the development of these paradigms over their 3-year college program.The authors conclude that the findings reveal that preservice teachers actively engage in pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) relating to emotionally charged topics, and they heavily base their constructions on prior beliefs as well as the educational program to which they have been exposed.

Preservice Teachers’ Perspectives of the Emphasis on Stewardship from Their Initial Teacher Preparation
The current study examined perceptions of future teachers as to the degree to which their teacher preparation program emphasized the idea of stewarding schools. In addition this article outlines specific emerging aspects of the stewardship construct that can be integrated into teacher education curricula. With a theoretical foundation that initial teacher preparation provides the foundation for teacher beliefs and practices, gaining insight how teacher preparation emphasizes the stewardship of schools provides a better understanding of the current milieu in schools.

This study considered the question of how students of color participating in Social Action Program (SAP) perceived their experiences in the program as compared with their White classmates. This study paid special attention to racial differences in how participants perceived the climate of this program. The findings revealed that the students of color participating in SAP described a weaker sense of community in the SAP classroom than did their White classmates and were often silent during the very discussions in which diverse perspectives would catalyze student learning and growth. In addition, many students of color expressed a reluctance to engage in race discussions with their classmates or to respond to perspectives they perceived as naïve, inaccurate, or offensive.

The purpose of this study was to determine how teachers rate themselves as compared to how students rate teachers. The authors used the Teacher Efficacy the External Influences Scale. This study demonstrates the utility of asking students to rate their teachers. In addition, the results indicate that students and teachers might perceive what influences students from different perspectives.

The Gamer Generation Teaches School: The Gaming Practices and Attitudes towards Technology of Pre-Service Teachers
The goal of this study was to identify the gaming practices of freshmen undergraduate teacher education students. The authors also investigated how students who play games compared to non-gamers in their interest in using specific technologies for learning, their beliefs about how technology affects their learning, their orientation towards using new technologies, and their beliefs about the role of technology in their future careers.
