This study focused on integrating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) lessons with arts-themed activities to create interdisciplinary STEAM education in order to simultaneously address these two contemporary challenges. The participants were 124 pre-service elementary teachers, who used multimedia production technologies to develop original STEAM lessons. The results showed general overall similarities among the three participating groups of bilingual generalist (BG), regular generalist (RG), and undecided generalist (UG) pre-service elementary teachers in regard to their peer evaluation scores for achievement of creativity-related objectives in the STEAM lessons.

In order to overcome the pedagogical limitations in distance learning environments and to lead the process of change and innovation by means of distance teaching and learning, the 'Mediating Teacher' Model for Distance Teaching and Learning was developed and tested on Israeli high-school students in the framework of the present writer's doctoral dissertation during the years 2010-2015. According to this model, in addition to the distance teacher, a 'mediating teacher' is present in the classroom. From the writer's own personal experience with the project, both the high-school teachers and the students display a great deal of interest in and satisfaction with the course.

This study investigated the acceptance of virtual worlds as a learning space. In this study, the effect of perceived usefulness (PU), ease of use and perceived enjoyment on the behavioural intention (BI) of students to use virtual worlds, as well as the relationship among the variables were examined. The findings from this study highlight important issues related to acceptance and adoption of virtual worlds. First, the results contribute to the literature by defining virtual worlds as a mixed system with both utilitarian and hedonic value. Virtual worlds can focus on the productive use of a system to increase learning as well as the prolonged use to provide fun and enjoyment.

Understanding the Theoretical Framework of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge: A Collaborative Self-study to Understand Teaching Practice and Aspects of Knowledge
In the self-study reported here, the aim was to acquire a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities that teacher educators and student teachers encounter while working with, and learning about, ICT as a tool for learning. This learning interest focused on both the practical aspects highlighted during the course and the more theoretical perspectives of knowledge and learning that emerge when technological aspects and tools are included in the process of teaching, learning, and assessing. One of the learning interests of this self-study was to analyze how the authors elaborated and developed their understanding of the theoretical framework of Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK).

The Development of an Implementation Model for ICT in Education: An Example of the Interaction of Affordances and Multimodality
This article explores issues staff and students in initial teacher education (ITE) organisations faced in implementing a series of information and communication technology (ICT) projects.To help those implementing ICT projects in education to unravel the nature of these interactions, the authors used their cross-case analysis to develop an implementation model. The model is based on data from a national evaluation of ICT-based projects in initial teacher education, which included a large-scale questionnaire survey and six in-depth case studies.

In this action research, the authors describe the implementation of a program to infuse technology in general methods courses as a requirement of a teacher preparation program. Results revealed successes and dilemmas of infusing technology into the courses. Candidates ably described prospective use of elements of the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) model, but were less confident of their ability to develop and implement content-based lessons in which P–12 students employed technology to meet content and technology standards.

The authors conducted this benchmarking study of the standalone course to determine the successful lessons and practices that should be incorporated into the new program design, in which educational technology faculty members were charged with developing an alternative approach of infusing technology into methods courses. Results from analysis of pre- and post-course survey results and focus-group data indicated that candidates' confidence and TPACK scores increased in the standalone course.

Multimedia Case-Based Learning to Enhance Pre-service Teachers’ Knowledge Integration for Teaching with Technologies
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of multimedia case-based learning on pre-service teachers’ knowledge integration related to using technologies in practice. The participants were 78 students who were enrolled in a teacher preparation course. They were provided with interventions that included either video cases or no cases. The authors compared the two groups’ TPACK scores representing technological, pedagogical and content knowledge, and their integration. The results of this study show that learning with video cases was beneficial to both individual knowledge acquisition and knowledge integration. However, the video case group and the no-case group did not show any differences in their understanding of technological content knowledge and technological, pedagogical content knowledge.

Examining the Quality of Technology Implementation in STEM Classrooms: Demonstration of an Evaluative Framework
In this study, the authors examined the impact of teacher professional development focused on incorporating these workplace technologies in the classroom. For this study, they developed an expanded framework that incorporated (a) the type of technology used; (b) the degree of alignment to science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) practices; (c) the use of student-centered pedagogical practices; and (d) the degree of relevance to real-world contexts. The results provide evidence that the framework captures quality of technology use and point to the need for additional research on effective teacher education around technology applications.
