The purpose of this study was to investigate teachers' perspectives of their relationships with their students. Furthermore, the purpose was to examine how the teachers described and negotiated relationship boundaries. The balance between demonstrating care while maintaining a healthy, productive level of control in the classroom was a recurring theme when discussing the boundaries.

This paper describes some of the conceptual and methodological issues that arise when researchers use teacher logs to measure classroom instruction. Data and examples come from the Study of Instructional Improvement. This study used teacher logs to study patterns of literacy instruction in schools implementing three comprehensive school reforms.

The Prosocial Classroom: Teacher Social and Emotional Competence in Relation to Student and Classroom Outcomes
The authors describe a model of the prosocial classroom. This model highlights the importance of teachers' social and emotional competence (SEC) and well-being in the development and maintenance of supportive teacher-student relationships, effective classroom management, and successful social and emotional learning program implementation. The model proposes that these factors contribute to creating a classroom climate that is more conducive to learning and that promotes positive developmental outcomes among students. Finally, the authors propose a research agenda to address the potential efficacy of intervention strategies designed to promote teacher SEC and improved learning outcomes for students.

'Lesson study' is a professional learning approach in which teachers work together to: formulate goals for student learning and long-term development; collaboratively plan a 'research lesson' designed to bring to life these goals; conduct the lesson in a classroom, with one team member teaching and others gathering evidence on student learning and development. They then discuss the evidence gathered during the lesson, using it to improve the lesson, the unit, and instruction more generally. In this article, a lesson study case from a Japanese elementary school is presented.

Based on the German Didaktik tradition and classroom interaction, an approach for the analysis of pedagogical authority is proposed providing an analytical tool for examining and understanding its constitutive elements and explaining its construction. It posits the existence of three types of interaction or relation from which pedagogical authority emanates: pedagogical interaction, deontic interaction and didactic interaction. Data collected from four teachers’ interviews in Finnish comprehensive schools.

Creating a positive working atmosphere in the classroom is the first concern of many student and beginning teachers in secondary education. Teaching in multicultural classrooms provides additional challenges for these teachers. This study identified shared practical knowledge about classroom management strategies of teachers who were successful in creating a positive working atmosphere in their multicultural classrooms.

The authors describe inclusive education as a political vision in Norway. The article describes one teacher's inclusive education experience in a classroom with several children with special needs. The case focuses on her helping her classroom and one particular student with behavioral problems go through the necessary transitions.
