Faculty Co-Teaching with Their Teacher Candidates in the Field: Co-Planning, Co-Instructing, and Co-Reflecting for STEM Education Teacher Preparation
Co-teaching is a fieldwork model in teacher education used to describe the shared responsibility of educators engaging in the process of planning, teaching, and reflecting to support student learning. While research often describes this model between teacher candidates and mentor teachers, this research examined co-teaching between university faculty and teacher candidates. The research questions included: (1) How do teacher candidates experience and perceive a co-teaching model with their faculty? and (2) What elements of teacher candidates’ experiences during co-teaching reflect the cognitive apprenticeship model of learning? Through this study it was identified that teacher candidates co-teaching with their faculty led to strengthened understanding of integrated STEM education, particularly in STEM content and PCK. Making thinking visible using cognitive apprenticeship through co-teaching led to teacher candidates developing an understanding of STEM education in their personal teaching practice and building their capacity to become confident and resourceful STEM educators.

Considering Implications for Self and Institutions in Navigating Transitions in Teacher Education Administration
Three mid-career teacher educators, each of whom involuntarily served as mid-level administrators are now in the similar position of having left those roles. Each has a different story to tell and they come from very different institutions, yet find themselves experiencing many of the same issues and frustrations. This collaborative self-study was an intentional study of and reflection on how their administrative roles impacted or changed their perspectives on teacher education in general and how it changed them each personally. The weight of the role had lasting implications for their personal and professional selves. Their reflective journals, weekly online meetings, and responses to each other’s experiences resulted in findings that can inform the work of others in similar positions or circumstances. Those findings, while both similar and distinct, reveal enough commonality that the authors, as teacher educators often placed in positions of leadership, must consider the implications for their practice, their students, their scholarship community, and themselves.

Although there is substantial research documenting the impact of department heads in higher education, there is a significant gap in the literature examining the role of program coordinators. This self-study explores how two teacher educators navigated the opportunities and costs of coordinating their respective programs, literacy education and elementary education. The data revealed three themes consistent across the coordinators: stakeholder and engagement, collaboration, and policy and power. Implications for leaders in higher education are discussed including the importance of revising evaluation tools to reflect the actual demands on coordinators’ time, allowing time for rich and deep conversation among leaders, and providing mentors to assist coordinators in building their skills and supporting their efforts.

“Learning Our Way Through”: Critical Professional Development for Social Justice in Teacher Education
While research indicates that critical professional development (CPD) can function as an alternative to dominant forms of top-down, anti-dialogical professional learning in K-12 settings, there is limited research on CPD in higher education, or among teacher education faculty specifically. In this article, the authors examine how participation in a year-long social justice-oriented faculty learning community (FLC) impacted faculty members’ identities and trajectories as social justice teacher educators and scholars. Our findings indicate that CPD can meet university-based educators’ hunger for community, professional learning, and strategic alliances, as well as increase their sense of efficacy and authenticity as social justice educators.

The purpose of this study was to examine the specific needs of students and junior faculty in counseling programs and to provide a glimpse of the mentorship experience through the lens of the mentee. The authors found that both master’s and doctoral level, and junior faculty alike suggested that a mentor should have certain characteristics, such as being approachable, having a personal style of mentoring, being encouraging, and providing clear and direct feedback to the mentee.

In this article, the authors addressed two issues that could improve the mentoring relationship. The first issue refers to a system for prompting regular contact between mentor and mentee. The second one addresses to a prompt to both mentor and mentee that provides relevant and timely topics as a springboard for conversation and mentoring guidance during those meetings. The authors describe how the use of creative technology at Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts addressed these two issues.

Examining the Benefits of a Faculty Technology Mentoring Program on Graduate Students' Professional Development
This study investigated the impact of a university-wide faculty technology mentoring (FTM) program on participating graduate students' professional development. The results reveal both how graduate students are rewarded by participating in such activities and valuable mentoring methods to develop graduate students' technical, academic, pedagogical, and professional skills.

Comparing Alternative Voices in the Academy: Navigating the Complexity of Mentoring Relationships from Divergent Ethnic Backgrounds
The authors explored the mentoring experiences of two women in higher education who are working at different levels within a research institution. Traditional mentoring relationships which pair graduate students or junior faculty with a single mentor matched by gender, race, research interest have not produced unilateral success for dedicated protégés. Alternatives to traditional mentoring have produced positive results for participants through supports which better match the needs of women and minority graduate students and junior faculty. Yet, few organized efforts to develop successful alternative approaches to traditional mentoring exist.

Leadership Development through Mentoring in Higher Education: A Collaborative Autoethnography of Leaders of Color
In this collaborative autoethnography, the authors explored how 14 faculty and administrators of color, identified as emerging leaders within their campus context, experienced mentoring and how these experiences have impacted their leadership development and sense of well-being in the higher education context. In this study, the authors provided evidence of the importance of supportive, developmental professional relationships in the lives of emerging leaders in higher education, especially among people of color. Leaders of color in faith-based higher education identified such relationships, involving psychosocial and career development functions, as fairly limited within their institutional settings.

This study aims to establish how university students’ and educators’ perceptions of YouTube in two different cultures, Japan and USA, affect their intentions to use this technology. This study attempts to predict and compare factors influencing YouTube acceptance among university students and educators in two very different cultures, Japan and the USA, applying the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT). The authors conclude that even though UTAUT’s four predictors can explain YouTube acceptance to a high degree, the influence of each predictor on YouTube acceptance varies significantly according to the cultural environment and the role of the teachers and the learners.
