The purpose of this study was two-folded. Firstly, it investigated the changes in preservice teachers’ professional identity after a four-week block practicum; Secondly, it examined the role of mentor teachers in creating changes in their professional identity. The author concludes that mentoring relationships played a significant role in shaping preservice teachers’ teacher identity. The detailed feedback mentor teachers provided and their positive interactions, helped preservice teachers build higher levels of confidence, and demonstrate a deeper understanding of their role as a teacher.

Enhancing International Postgraduates’ Learning Experience with Online Peer Assessment and Feedback Innovation
This article describes a Higher Education Academy Economics Network-funded research examined academic and international students' experience of innovative online peer assessment and feedback. The findings reveal that the innovative tools, like PeerMark, facilitate a simple but powerful educational principle for international students. Furthermore, the authors found that the heterogeneity in assessors’ ability levels may not affect the confidence of international students in online peer assessment.

Preparing Teachers for Professional Learning: Is There a Future for Teacher Education in New Teacher Induction?
In this article, the authors explore which factors support or constrain professional learning during initial years of teaching. The findings reveal that novice teachers generally experienced a positive welcome into their schools and the support of well-meaning colleagues. The majority of the new teachers perceive their initial induction to be useful and, in particular, they credit mentoring with assisting their transition into teaching. The authors conclude that providing opportunities for the new teacher to observe other teachers and to be observed by a mentor emerged as central tasks of learning to teach for these new teachers.

Promoting Effective Teacher-Feedback: From Theory to Practice through a Multiple Component Trajectory for Professional Development
This study presents an evaluation of a theory-based trajectory for professional development called FeTiP (FeedbackTheory into Practice). It aims to have an observable effect on teacher classroom behavior. The authors describe the effects of FeTiP on the feedback behavior of teachers and attempt to explain why these effects occurred. The findings reveal that teachers showed significant progress in the frequency of the feedback they provided after following FeTiP. In the post-tests, they also provided significantly more specific feedback, and their ratio of positive and negative feedback increased. The authors found no differences for age, gender, or experience in the total frequency of feedback, specific feedback, and the ratio of positive and negative feedback at the pre-test condition.

Teacher Learning through Self-Regulation: An Exploratory Study of Alternatively Prepared Teachers’ Ability to Plan Differentiated Instruction in an Urban Elementary School
The purpose of this research is to understand alternative certification candidates’ development as planners and implementers of Differentiated Instruction. This article presents three cases which introduces three female apprentices. The important role of self-regulation in apprentice development is an overarching conclusion in this study because the development of each of the other conditions (collegial relationships, classroom management, planning for a standard and student need, accepting feedback) was greatly influenced by the apprentice’s ability to self-regulate. Apprentices with strong self-regulatory capabilities demonstrated a stronger ability to plan and implement Differentiated Instruction. This stronger ability is possibly due to the fact that teachers who engage in self-regulatory behaviors are more likely to know what is going on with students, and lessons.

This study surveyed 128 early childhood programs in 2- and 4-year institutions of higher education across seven states. Results indicate that across 2- and 4-year institutions, language and literacy are a strong focus of feedback for student teachers, as well as child development, planning, and adult–child interactions. Student teachers are typically supervised through on-site visits that range in number and length fairly dramatically across 2- and 4-year institutions.

In this article, the authors focused on observed and perceived feedback on practice among teachers, who participated in a peer coaching program. The authors focused on two issues: the interplay of observed feedback dimensions and elements and perceptions of that feedback. The results showed that the elements of the peer coaching program were proven as an effective professional development activity: watching video excerpts, asking open-ended, solution-focused questions, acknowledging coached teachers, and helping them to tackle their goals were confirmed as parts of an effective feedback environment.

Enhancing Feedback in Student-Teacher Field Experience in Scotland: The Role of School–University Partnership
This paper examines school–university partnership and formative feedback within student-teacher field experience. The authors examine the qualities of a three-way dialogue about student-teacher progress, and the issues that militate against feedback being used to maximise professional development. This small study of additional support for students on field experience indicated that there were positive outcomes regarding the three-way dialogue about student-teacher progress. This dialogue gave a greater focus to the whole feedback process, encouraging the student to consider the learning goals of placement more clearly. And, particularly from the tutor point of view, this more intensive contact with the partner schools helped by giving an even greater incentive to the tutors to have a secure professional relationship with each other and thus with the schools.

Digital Oral Feedback on Written Assignments as Professional Learning for Teacher Educators: A Collaborative Self-study
The current paper reports on a self-study of teacher educators involved in a preservice teacher unit on literacy. In this study, the teacher educators provided the preservice teachers with digital oral feedback about their final unit of work. The authors found that working as a team enabled them to provide more in-depth feedback on the assessment criteria for each assignment than was previously the case with written feedback. Through this dialogical feedback, the teacher educators were able to construct the preservice teachers’ assignments as an important textual gift for their collaborative professional learning.
