In this article, the author argues that we live in a postmodern world in which the pace of the change accelerates daily. The Western world experiences a“crisis of education', in which schools become more irrelevant than ever to real life and teachers lose their authority and influence on the children's lives. This crisis should be addressed by a responsible professional educator, who questions the moral basis of the society and suggests that solidarity and communality are no less significant than individuality, privatization and competition. The author had initiated a teacher education program whose aim is to promote this vision in prospective teachers. ACE [Active-Collaborative-Education] is a teacher education program for post-graduate students conducted in Kaye Academic College of Education in Beer-Sheva.

In this article, the authors review literature on humanistic teacher education. They described humanistic characteristics for today's teachers. Selected humanistic dispositions, or the action components that rise from humanistic beliefs, are particularly important for today's teachers and current trends in education. The authors group these dispositions and accompanying pedagogies into three categories: individual, relational, and contextual. They recommend that programs and graduate degrees for in-service teachers should emphasize the teaching and assessing of humanistic dispositions.

Person-centered education is a counseling-originated, educational psychology model, overripe for meta-analysis, that posits that positive teacher-student relationships are associated with optimal, holistic learning. It includes classical, humanistic education and today’s constructivist learner-centered model. The author reviewed about 1,000 articles to synthesize 119 studies from 1948 to 2004 with 1,450 findings and 355,325 students.
