Dance as dialog: A metaphor analysis on the development of interculturality through arts and community-based learning with preservice teachers and a local refugee community
This paper explores the use of arts and community-based (ACB) approaches to intercultural teacher education. Twenty-four preservice teachers and five adult Yazidi refugees/community members participated in this study which involved a two-week arts-based workshop in Fall 2019 at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Data for the study included pre- and post-group discussion recordings as well as oral and written reflections one week after the workshop. Using metaphor analysis, the authors examine the way project participants talk about their experiences in the workshop. Findings showed how ACB approaches hold promise as a vehicle for developing interculturality in teacher education.

An Educational and Treatment Model of an Alternative to Detention for Unaccompanied Minors from Africa in Israel: The Placement of Adolescents from Eritrea and Sudan, in Residential Schools
Most of the young refugees crossing the border to Israel lack any documents. The first stage after being caught by law enforcement agencies is placement in immigrant detention centers. One of the challenges of societies and countries that are committed to the values of safeguarding human rights is to find alternatives to the detention of unaccompanied minors. The experience described herein is a rather successful model practiced in Israel whereby unaccompanied adolescents (age 14-17) are placed in residential schools called 'youth villages' as an alternative to detention.

In this article, the author argues that recognizing the role of subjectivity and bringing in the researcher's positionality as a tool in the research process can not only enhance the ethical integrity of the research but also enhance both the research process and the analysis and interpretation of the data. The author explores the relational dynamics of a qualitative research study in which the author worked with 15 Bosnian adolescent female refugees and 10 Bosnian refugee community members living in New York City. The author's purpose is to explore their understandings of identity after conflict, flight, and relocation.
