One-to-One Laptop Teacher Education: Does Involvement Affect Candidate Technology Skills and Dispositions?
The authors examine differences in student technology outcomes between a pilot 1:1 program with ubiquitous technology use and a more traditional program in which our candidates are expected to complete specific technology requirements in each course. The authors found that after the post-test that the beliefs of laptop candidates about educational uses of technology and skill level with educational technology significantly increased. The results also indicated that teacher candidates who were not given ubiquitous access did not improve in skill level, nor did their beliefs about educational technology change.

The purpose of this study is to examine initial concerns of faculty involved in a one-to-one laptop program in an elementary teacher credential program. This study took place at a large state public university in Southern California. Eight instructional faculty and three field supervision faculty participated in this study. Results indicate that, as a group, faculty participants had high-level awareness, management, and impact concerns, yet highest concerns for individual faculty varied. Data pointed to three major implications regarding technology-rich teacher education and faculty issues to be addressed for program success.

In this article, the authors explore the relationship between technology use in school classrooms and a teacher preparation program. The authors describe how teacher candidates learn how to use technology as a pedagogical tool to enhance teaching and learning . They describe technology use in schools, their courses, and their students' field experiences. By modeling technology integration in their course work (based on what they observed in schools) and by collaborating with technology-rich classrooms and teachers, the authors found that teacher candidates became natural users of technology in their student teaching.
