Zen and the Art of Neriage: Facilitating Consensus Building in Mathematics Inquiry Lessons through Lesson Study
In this article, the authors were interested to explore how teachers can effectively facilitate classroom discussions in the ways that elicit negotiation of meaning and maximize the potential of mathematical inquiry activities. In the neriage stage, Japanese teachers encourage students to listen to other students’ ideas carefully and consider the strengths and weaknesses of different problem-solving strategies. Then the teachers facilitate discussions to co-determine which strategy is the most reasonable and efficient one. This article introduces a video-based lesson study that explored how a group of U.S. teachers could successfully implement consensus building discussions (or neriage) in their mathematics classrooms.

Developing a Policy for an International Experience Requirement in a Graduate Teacher Education Program: A Cautionary Tale
This case study describes the process education faculty went through to craft a response to a school-wide international experience initiative. Analysis revealed three competing frames that shaped individual faculty members' expectations. This is a cautionary tale providing lessons learned from one university's experience.

Rehearsing to Teach: Content-Specific Deconstruction of Instructional Explanations in Pre-Service Teacher Training
The article proposes the importance of rehearsing instructional explanations. It also suggest fine-tuning the coherence and meaningfulness of instructional explanations before pre-service teachers start practice teaching. The article presents actual examples of such rehearsals in which the pre-service teachers demonstrated the need for developing deeper pedagogical understanding of the ways their elementary school students construct their content knowledge.
