The goal of this study was to examine (a) preservice teacher perceptions of student and teacher behavior during scenarios of challenging behavior, (b) alternative solutions or strategies in examining the teacher’s role in the scenarios, (c) perceptions of challenging behaviors that may present the greatest difficulty in their future positions, and (d) their attitudes and opinions regarding challenging behavior in the classroom.

Teachers’ Beliefs of Behaviors, Learning, and Teaching Related to Minority Students: A Comparison of Han and Mongolian Chinese Teachers
This study surveyed the beliefs of behavior, learning, and teaching that the mainstream Han and minority Mongolian Chinese teachers in the same school contexts hold about their Mongolian Chinese students. It found that the two groups agreed that teachers’ inadequate planning and management were the major sources of their students’ behavior problems while students’ home backgrounds, abilities, and efforts explained their learning failure or success. Both believed that students’ emotional and social problems were more important than their learning problems for them to attend to, and their expertise in helping students develop self-worth was more important than their expertise in curriculum and pedagogy.

Does Classroom Management Coursework Influence Pre-service Teachers’ Perceived Preparedness or Confidence?
This study explores the preparedness in managing specific problem behaviours, familiarity, and confidence in using management strategies and models of final-year pre-service teachers in Australia. The findings reveal that the completion of mandatory, or a combination of mandatory and elective classroom behaviour management units, was associated with higher feelings of preparedness for all categories of problematic behaviours. Furthermore, pre-service teachers indicated they were familiar with a broad range of options for managing student misbehaviour from their coursework preparation.

Effects of Coaching on Teachers’ Use of Function-Based Interventions for Students With Severe Disabilities
The present study used a delayed multiple-baseline across-participants design to analyze the effects of coaching on special education teachers’ implementation of function-based interventions with students with severe disabilities. This study also examined the extent to which teachers could generalize function-based interventions to different situations. In addition, this study examined the effects of function-based interventions on students’ problem and replacement behaviors. Results indicated a functional relationship between coaching and an increase in teacher fidelity scores. Teachers generalized the strategies to other situations with the target students.

The purpose of this study was to understand in what ways a teacher negotiated her relationship with a behaviorally challenging student throughout the school year. Four relationship phases, which are constantly revisited while establishing and maintaining relationships, were identified. Understandings of how relationships work, the effort required to maintain them and the support necessary for teachers are discussed.

This article describes the results of a case study which worked with 80 lecturers drawn from Israeli teachers' colleges. The lecturers reported that they face relatively few discipline problems. The lecturers treated each case in an ad hoc way, responded mildly and avoided imposing sanctions. It is argued that the student teachers' misconduct could have been used by their lecturers as excellent raw material to analyse the conditions in which problems are likely to occur in the school classroom. The lack of transference from the college setting to the student teachers' experience in the classroom is discussed.

Pre-service Teachers’ Open-Minded Thinking Dispositions, Readiness to Learn, and Attitudes about Learning and Behavioural Difficulties in Students
The purpose of this study was to examine the linkages between the four components of pre-service teachers’ attitudes toward children with learning and behavioural difficulties (LBD) and the factors that predict their attitudes. Using a self-report measure that consisted of four scenarios describing students with LBD, the authors investigated the degree to which pre-service teachers’ open-minded thinking dispositions, readiness to learn about students with LBD, beliefs about the role of regular classroom teachers in providing for these students, and emotions in relation to dealing with these students’ difficulties predict their likelihood of engaging in punitive reactions and planned behaviours.

The author investigates the behavioral climate and teachers’ use of developmental instruction in predominantly black schools in three databases. The author concludes that consistent with prior research, teachers are much more likely to report incidences of problem behavior in predominantly Black schools. Consequently, the instructional environment in predominantly Black schools and classrooms is tailored somewhat to reduce classroom disruptions and maintain an orderly environment.

The article evaluates the effectiveness of pre-service training that focuses on collaborative consultation and positive behavior support for treatment of challenging behaviors. The effectiveness of an 8-month training program is evaluated for three participant groups: (a) 16 advanced undergraduate and master's-level students who received the training, (b) 16 classroom teachers who participated as consultees, and (c) 16 target children (4 to 10 years) who exhibited challenging behaviors that interfered with their learning.
