This study focused on the students’ perception of the role of the pedagogical advisor. A uniform voice identified in participants’ responses clearly expressed a desire to be viewed as partners and have a more active role in the program in terms of their own learning process. At the same time, they also expected their pedagogical advisors to lend not only professional but also personal support and to help them cope with all aspects of the program.

This longitudinal study examined the curricular approaches of 14 student-teachers in training to teach Jewish subjects, from the preservice training stage through the beginning of teaching in secondary schools. This study focuses on the student-teachers’ approaches to curriculum and the differences in their attitudes toward two formal study programs: Jewish Philosophy and Bible studies, that differ in character and essence. The study’s findings identified differences in the curricular approaches held by the participating student-teachers from the beginning of training through professional teaching. Furthermore, it seems that the institutional component was a significant factor in the differences between the two subjects.

‘These Are Not the Realities I Imagined’: An Inquiry into the Lost Hopes and Aspirations of Beginning Teachers
The concept of the Program for Excellence in Teaching (PET), formulated at colleges of education in Israel, was designed to train teachers who not only exhibit excellence but also have potential to influence the educational system and institute change therein. This study, focusing on 21 students and beginning teachers who participated in the PET at a certain college of education in Israel, examines their professional expectations and the disparity between intentions and implementations that happens as the beginning teachers encounter the reality in schools. This study assesses the dissonance between students’ and beginning teachers’ self-expectations in light of the PET context.

This study examines the characteristics, advantages and shortcomings of the educational approaches used by Israeli students, who have developed and taught curricula on the intelligent use of the Web. Most of the students chose balanced approaches for developing and teaching curricula on the subject, relating both to the benefits and the dangers of using the Web. Quite a few, however, chose a negative critical approach focusing on the dangers and harmful effects of the Internet. A marginal minority chose a positive approach stressing only the beneficial uses of the Web.

Provision of In-Service Training of Mathematics and Science Teachers in Botswana: Teachers’ Perspectives
This study explored the perceptions of mathematics and science teachers in Botswana towards in-service provision by the Department of Mathematics and Science Education In-service Training unit (DMSE-INSET). This department's mandate is to improve the quality of teaching by supporting teachers through training programs that enable them to take ownership of their professional development. Data were collected from a sample of 42 senior Mathematics and Science secondary school teachers.

Analysis of the Reflections of Student-Teachers of Mathematics When Working with Learning Portfolios in Spanish University Classrooms
Research in teacher-training counsels that reflection should be fostered in order to prepare capable professionals for educational practice. For this reason, a teaching-learning process for training mathematics student-teachers in Spanish university classrooms incorporating an assessment system that included keeping a learning portfolio was analyzed.The results showed the difference between the assessment of student-teachers in reflection and the other aspects, and thus the need to use specific assessment instruments for the different capabilities being developed in the training process.

“It Enables Me to Realise My Fantasies Regarding The Practicum”: A Preliminary Study of An Academia–School Partnership in Israel
This article presents an exploratory study of a 10-year-old partnership between a special education department at a Teacher Training College in Israel and a special school for children with developmental disabilities. The partnership is analysed utilising criteria that characterise successful Professional Development Schools. Strengths and weaknesses of the model are discussed and recommendations for future directions and research are presented.
