The authors describe the preliminary findings associated with training pre-service teachers to use Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) in their classrooms. The authors examine how a simple instructional intervention may emphasize salient, educational attributes of MMOGs and reduce the perceived curricular cost of MMOGs. To do so, this research applied a learning in technology perspective that describes immersive technology as a medium in which the environment and player become one.

Enhancing the Development of Pre-service Teacher Professional Identity via an Online Classroom Simulation
The authors report on a comparative case study of first and final year pre-service teachers enrolled in an undergraduate education degree who engaged with an online classroom simulation. The findings indicated the first year pre-service teachers were able to identify and articulate their emerging teaching philosophy and began to visualise themselves in the role of a classroom teacher. By way of comparison, the final year pre-service teachers were able to draw upon their previous experiences and knowledge whilst engaging with the simulation to articulate their philosophy of teaching and make important connections between their university coursework and field experiences.

The authors used advanced online Bug in Ear (BIE) technology as an approach to supervise and to provide 13 teachers in training with virtual coaching feedback online, in real-time, during their distant clinical experiences. The results confirmed that improvements in participants’ use of research-based instructional strategies were achieved, in part, through immediate virtual coaching feedback delivered from a distance, using advanced online BIE technology.

The authors examined the role of student interaction in an online environment and implications for course development and online instruction. The authors describe interaction in three ways: in relation to content; in relation to the instructor; and in relation to other learners. The body of research points to student interaction as an essential component of online learning, and the increase in the level of interactivity directly correlates with a higher the level of student satisfaction and performance.

The purpose of this reflective position paper is threefold: to provide teacher educators with three literature-based reasons to share with their students about why it is important to listen to parents; to identify familiar comments, concerns, and feelings that the students have voiced about listening to parents; and to provide five practical cooperative-learning activities that will potentially influence their students' practices.

Professional Development That Works: Shifting Preschool Teachers' Beliefs and Use of Instructional Strategies to Promote Children's Peer Social Competence
The author examined the effectiveness of a professional development (PD) experience on preschool teachers' instructional strategy development. The preschool teachers were guided to design the specific contents of the PD workshops and were offered an on-site facilitation opportunity, delineating teacher-driven and job-embedded approaches, respectively. Findings suggest that teacher-driven PD workshops significantly increased teachers' perceived feasibility of implementing instructional strategies, and their actual use of those strategies was significantly influenced by job-embedded facilitations.

The current study explored the assessment literacy of 11 secondary preservice teachers. The authors examined how the preservice teachers understood assessment tools as well as their reasons for using assessment. Furthermore, the authors investigated how the preservice teachers incorporated assessments into inquiry-based science units. Findings reveal that preservice teachers understood several ways to use assessment for learning. However, the inclusion of assessments contained within the science units did not fully align with the views of assessment the preservice teachers presented in their teaching philosophies or journals.

This article provides a description of service learning implemented in an introductory special education course focused on the culture of disability. Collaborating with liaisons from five community service organizations, students provided services to individuals with disabilities in a variety of projects across two semesters.

This article provides an overview of the treatment of classroom management in teacher education and teaching around the world. Six approaches to classroom management are distinguished: classroom management approaches that focus on external control of behaviour, on internal control, on classroom ecology, on discourse, on curriculum, and on interpersonal relationships. This article then presents an analysis of the six approaches across countries and cultures.

The current study examines teachers’ attitudes toward pedagogical changes. Teachers’ attitudes toward such changes are examined at different stages of their professional development. The participants were 520 teachers in primary schools, junior high schools, and high schools. Significant differences were found between teachers at different stages of their professional development.
