How Can a Blended Learning Environment Enhance Job-Related Competencies of In-Service Physical Educators? –Development and Implementation of a Web-Based Video Analysis Service (EQUEL)
This article describes the future development of a web-based video analysis service (EQUEL). The aim of this service is encouraging in-service physical education (PE) teachers to reflect on their own teaching practice and how they can develop it further.

In this study, the authors inspected teachers’ online discussions of animations of classroom episodes realized with cartoon characters, looking at the difference in the content of conversation turns when members made evaluative comments and when they did not make evaluative comments. They were interested in finding out whether making evaluative comments correlated with participants’ reflection on their professional practice and proposal of alternative teaching actions. They found statistically significant evidence that the more the participants actively evaluated the teaching in the animations, the more they proposed alternative teaching actions and reflected on instructional practice.

The authors describe the preliminary findings associated with training pre-service teachers to use Massively Multiplayer Online Games (MMOGs) in their classrooms. The authors examine how a simple instructional intervention may emphasize salient, educational attributes of MMOGs and reduce the perceived curricular cost of MMOGs. To do so, this research applied a learning in technology perspective that describes immersive technology as a medium in which the environment and player become one.

Enhancing the Development of Pre-service Teacher Professional Identity via an Online Classroom Simulation
The authors report on a comparative case study of first and final year pre-service teachers enrolled in an undergraduate education degree who engaged with an online classroom simulation. The findings indicated the first year pre-service teachers were able to identify and articulate their emerging teaching philosophy and began to visualise themselves in the role of a classroom teacher. By way of comparison, the final year pre-service teachers were able to draw upon their previous experiences and knowledge whilst engaging with the simulation to articulate their philosophy of teaching and make important connections between their university coursework and field experiences.

Effectiveness and Impact of Technology-Enabled Project-Based Learning with the Use of Process Prompts in Teacher Education
The authors investigated the effectiveness and impacts of process prompts on students’ learning and computer self-efficacy within the technology-enabled project-based learning (PBL) context in an undergraduate educational technology course. The participants were thirty-five prospective teachers enrolled in a Web-Based Instruction for English Language Teaching (ELT) course. Students’ interviews and reflections revealed that process prompts were important in facilitating problem-solving efforts. The surveys showed significant gains on students’ computer self-efficacy after the completion of technology-enabled PBL.

The main purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of simSchool in improving participants’ scores in teacher preparation and attitudes toward inclusion. Findings revealed that students who participated in the teaching simulation scored higher on the teacher preparation survey and valued simulations and computer games more.

The authors describe reflections from two cycles of developmental research that involved creating and refining a series of computer-based applets for reasoning about the relative magnitude of fractional quantities. The results indicated that the intent of many of these features did serve their intended pedagogical purposes. In particular, features such as strategic hint tools and nonjudgmental feedback enhanced users’ experiences. However, non-interactive aspects, such as written reflection questions, did not enhance users’ experiences.

Making the Connection: Moore’s Theory of Transactional Distance and Its Relevance to the Use of a Virtual Classroom in Postgraduate Online Teacher Education
The purpose of the current study was to explore students’ perceptions of the virtual classroom in terms of the impact they considered it made on their sense of transactional distance. The author used Moore’s (1997) Theory of Transactional Distance to analyze students' perceptions. The findings reveal that the use of the virtual classroom can potentially, at least, contribute to the development of quality dialogue. However according to Moore’s theory, this dialogue depends on structural aspects and, consequently, student perception of learner autonomy.

In this evaluation study, the authors compared the effectiveness of a distance and an on-campus teacher education program for teachers of students with severe disabilities. Teacher candidates in the distance cohort received the same program of study as candidates in the on-campus program except that the coursework was delivered through videoconferencing technology instead of traditional, face-to-face instruction. The results indicate that there were no significant differences between students in the distance and on-campus teacher education cohorts on the measures of learning.

In this article, the authors investigate the value of collaboration in promoting the sharing of individual reflective thinking in group work and enhancing metacognitive knowledge in a project-based e-learning context. The authors conducted an empirical study using a collaborative learning script combining individual and collaborative activities at specific phases of a project as an additional scaffold. The authors used MyProject in an e-learning context where all the interactions take place online and the life cycle of a project is inherent in the environment.
