The Change in Epistemological Beliefs and Beliefs about Teaching and Learning: A Study among Pre-service Teachers
This study explored the change in Singaporean pre-service teachers' epistemological beliefs and beliefs about learning and teaching over the course of a teacher preparation program. 413 Singaporean pre-service teachers participated in this study. Participants exhibited significant changes in epistemological beliefs and beliefs about learning and teaching. They indicated more relativistic epistemological outlooks and less constructivism in beliefs about teaching.

This investigation examines the success, pitfalls, and lessons learned from incorporating videogame-like components into an educational technology class. The students in this class chose various levels at which to complete assignments but had to earn a certain number of points before being able to move on to the next assignment. Findings reveal parallels between the students' cognitive, motivational, and affective processes and those of gamers.

In this article, the authors were interested to examine the assertion that testing students on higher order thinking skills may reinforce these skills among them. Therefore, they developed a graduate course for inservice science teachers which combines face-to-face classroom discussions with online activities, interrelating teaching, learning, and assessment. The study examined the learning processes and outcomes of 51 graduate students.

The goal of this review is to synthesize literature that has empirically examined factors related to computer self-efficacy and the relationship between computer self-efficacy, learning outcomes, and learning processes with computer-based learning environments. This research reviewed 33 articles. Results indicate that behavioral and psychological factors are positively related to computer self-efficacy.

The article examines the role of reader characteristics in processing and learning from informational text, as revealed in think-aloud research. A theoretical framework for relevant aspects of readers' processing and products was developed. A body of 45 studies was identified, considering reader characteristics of ability, experience, knowledge, and interest.

Learning to Teach: Enhancing Pre-Service Teachers' Awareness of The Complexity of Teaching-Learning Processes
The article addresses the effects of the intervention on pre-service teachers’ awarenessof the complexity of teaching. The authors designed one semester-long intervention course for pre-service teachers, based on an Internet site, including video-recorded authentic classroom literature teaching situations, transcripts of these lessons and diverse tasks. An analysis of the data revealed the pre-service teachers’ learning processes as they unfolded along the course: growing awareness of the complexity of classroom teaching, ability to base the analysis of the episodes on theories, and the initial construction of a cognitive lens to view classroom processes holistically.

In the context of educational innovation, it is important to examine how in-service teachers learn and adapt their knowledge to changing professional circumstances. The authors examined the informal learning of a small number of experienced science teachers in their first few years of teaching a new science syllabus in secondary education in the Netherlands.The storyline method was used to elicit the teachers’ perceptions of their learning from experiences at work. Implications for professional development initiatives are discussed, as are suggestions for initial teacher education.
