This article provides a case study of a student teacher (ST) whose beliefs about social constructivist pedagogy were reinforced by the competing views of teaching and mentoring that collided during her student teaching. This student teacher was assigned to work with two veteran CTs in English. The authors highlight the significant impact of the cooperating teacher’s approach to mentoring on a student teacher’s developing practice. The authors argue that this case study highlights the influence of mentoring on STs’ pedagogy.

The authors examine six pre-service language teachers’ development of multiple components of corpus literacy during a semester-long introductory grammar course through which corpus linguistics was threaded. Results showed that while corpus literacy training was generally effective, that effectiveness varied among subjects.

The Culture of Family: How a Model Early Childhood Teacher Preparation Program Navigates a Limited Context
This paper examines an extraordinarily successful early childhood education teacher preparation program at an urban 2-year college struggling with retention. This Early Childhood Education Program is able to maintain a graduation rate that is over four times greater than that of the college average and has a reputation for producing high-quality early childhood educators. The faculty and students in the program explain that the key to the program's success is a “culture of family,” a strength-based approach that appreciates and builds upon the assets of the faculty and students. Furthermore, this approach fosters meaningful relationships by focusing on the whole student, and creates a strong commitment to the program.

Development of Pedagogical Technology Integration Content Knowledge in Preparing Mathematics Preservice Teachers: The Role of Instructional Case Analyses and Reflection
This case study examines the potential of technology integration teaching cases to develop preservice mathematics teachers’ Pedagogical Technology Integration Content Knowledge (PTICK). A cohort of eight mathematics education students was enrolled in a technology integration course at a large southeastern university that emphasizes pedagogy. The findings indicated the development of PTICK as a whole and individual aspect of PTICK. The researchers observed enhanced pedagogical knowledge and reflective knowledge during the study.

This case study examined the experiences of a group of high school science teachers participating in a unique professional development method involving an argue-to-learn intervention. Findings indicate that participant groups were more likely to use the Web to find unique evidence than to they were to use the provided materials.

Use of the Outdoor Classroom and Nature-Study to Support Science and Literacy Learning: A Narrative Case Study of a Third-Grade Classroom
The author describes a case study of an exemplary third grade teacher’s use of the outdoor classroom for meeting both state science and language arts standards. The data reveal that this teacher’s early life experiences supported her strong interest in science and nature in the outdoors and experiencing it with her children.

In this article, the authors examine the degree of effectiveness in the application of the tutorial action programme at the University of Alicante. The results demonstrated that the tutorial intervention has adapted to students in accordance with their training process, as they need different study techniques as well as different cognitive and attitudinal learning strategies depending on the degrees and on their own personality. The tutorial spaces also generated an atmosphere where reflection was permanently encouraged.

Pre-service Teachers’ Greater Power to Act in the Classroom: Analysis of the Circumstances for Professional Development
This case study examined the professional development of a pre-service mathematics teacher. The objective was to identify the circumstances in which professional activity developed during and as a result of mentoring interactions and classroom teaching experience. The results show that the instructions given by the co-operating teacher, university supervisor, and an experienced maths teacher were resources for this development when they allowed the pre-service teacher to think about her teaching activity and construct more personal actions, adapted to the characteristics of her classroom experience.

Helping Trainee Teachers Realize the Potential of Information and Communication Technology: A Case Study from Scottish History
This article examines how trainee teacher used Information and Communication Technology to enhance their students' learning. The article focuses on teaching history education in Scotland through a series of multimedia CD ROMs. The author concludes that Scottish multimedia resources helped students investigate the past through a process which began by asking questions and ended with presenting the conclusions. Furthermore, the programs also demonstrate to teacher trainees some of the ways in which ICT can enhance teaching and learning.
