Preparing Preservice Teachers for 21st Century Classrooms: Transforming Attitudes and Behaviors About Innovative Technology
This article promotes instructors’ ideas about behaviors of 21st century teachers. It also explores their efforts to support their preservice teachers to join this rank. In this qualitative study, three instructors report the results of implementing a new project, the Innovations Mini-Teach, into their course. The findings indicated that preservice teachers in this study used a variety of strategies to learn new innovations well enough to teach or model their use to classmates.

In this article, the authors discuss what it means to be a professional teacher with practical wisdom. Furthermore, they discuss how practical wisdom is related to theory and experience. These questions are especially relevant as nowadays, in many countries, teacher education becomes more school-based. Building on theories on the functioning of the human mind in general, and teacher behavior in particular, the notions of practical wisdom, theory, and experience are connected in a triangular model.

This study concerns the relation between teachers’ beliefs towards teaching behaviour and their actual teaching behaviour in teacher portfolio assessment. The authors analysed the beliefs and behaviour of 18 teachers as described in their portfolios. In addition, each portfolio was independently assessed by two trained raters on eight content standards and the teachers’ classroom behaviour was assessed by their own students in a questionnaire.

The Role of Elementary Teachers’ Conceptions of Closeness to Students on Their Differential Behaviour in the Classroom
The purpose of this project was to examine elementary school teachers’ conceptions of closeness using a structured interview protocol. Participants included three Caucasian teachers from the United States. Specifically, as part of the protocol, teachers were asked to (1) rate their feelings of closeness for each of the students in their class, (2) describe each relationship, (3) identify patterns of interpersonal closeness and distance across their class, and (4) talk about their understanding of what it means to be close to students.

Teacher Behaviour and Student Outcomes: Suggestions for Research on Teacher Training and Professional Development
The study reported here examines whether teaching skills included in the dynamic model of educational effectiveness can be grouped into types of teacher behavior and whether these types are related with different student outcome measures. The data stem from a study which was conducted in order to test the validity of the dynamic model.
