This article is based on our experiences in designing and implementing an integrated literacy methods course in a field-based teacher education program. The authors describe issues involved in helping preservice teachers learn to differentiate literacy instruction for diverse learners in urban schools and describe how they use Grossman’s framework of representation, decomposition, and approximation of practice to connect theory and practice.

The Impact of a Novel Curriculum on Secondary Biology Teachers’ Dispositions Toward Using Authentic Data and Media in Their Human Impact and Ecology Lessons
The study examines how implementation of a real-world data and media-centered human impact curriculum influenced teacher dispositions toward using data and media in their ecology and human impact lesson plans. It explores how integration of these elements shapes teachers’ lesson plans. The findings show that this curriculum implementation positively affected teachers’ dispositions to use data analysis and media about scientific research to explain how people impact ecological function. Furthermore prior to the curriculum implementation, many teacher lesson plans focused on the general theme that people harm the environment. The curriculum gave teachers cases of data and media examples that helped them specify the particular ways people cause ecological harm.

The purpose of this article was to examine how prospective teachers (PTs) can learn to read and use educative curriculum materials in ways that support them in acquiring the knowledge needed for teaching. The authors present two extended conceptual examples of ways in which educative curriculum materials might be used to support PTs in developing the knowledge needed for teaching.

The Efficacy of Educative Curriculum Materials to Support Geospatial Science Pedagogical Content Knowledge
The authors examined teachers’ perceived impact of the curriculum materials to support their pedagogical content knowledge related to teaching science with geospatial technologies. Results indicated that the educative curriculum materials supported science teachers’ professional growth related to their geospatial science pedagogical content knowledge during the curriculum enactment.

Implementation of a Course Focused on Language and Literacy Within Teacher–Child Interactions: Instructor and Student Perspectives Across Three Institutions of Higher Education
This study examined the implementation of a standardized course combining content related to effective teacher–child interactions and language and literacy across three institutions of higher education. The results included instructor perspectives about design and delivery as well as students’ perspectives of content and delivery and their associated changes in beliefs and knowledge. The results indicated that the course was successfully implemented in three institutions, and the course content was viewed positively by instructors and students.

Teachers’ Perspectives on the Effectiveness of a Locally Planned Professional Development Program for Implementing New Curriculum
This research project examined how elementary teachers in one Canadian school district were handling implementation of a new social studies curriculum over the 2009–10 school year, three to five years after they experienced a formal district-level program of professional development. The findings suggest that effective professional development needs to be based on teachers’ needs; involve active learning, collaboration and modeling; be supported by a culture of learning in schools; and considerate of teacher resistance to change.

This study aimed to examine how national curriculum, school, and classroom contexts in Turkey influenced beginning teachers’ learning to teach when they did not have any support. The findings reveal that teachers’ classroom practice was influenced by national curriculum requirements, lack of collegial support at schools, and students’ mixed knowledge levels in the classrooms due to the complex relationship between the three contexts.

The current study explores the development of student teachers’ skills in implementing collaborative learning using a multilevel repeated measures design. Participants were 105 pre-service teachers that were trained in collaborative learning implementation. The results indicate that student teachers generally perform well in implementing collaborative learning.

In this case study, the researcher investigated three pre-K teachers’ perceptions of mathematics curriculum at their school in west Alabama. Three themes emerged from the data (a) math resources for the pre-K classroom, (b( pushing beyond—thinking mathematically, and (c) instructional strategies used in the pre-K classroom. These themes revealed how all of the teachers’ perceptions of early childhood mathematics curriculum and instruction changed over the course of the study.

This study explored the manifestation of differentiation for special education students in work sample lesson plans written by preservice teachers working toward an elementary credential. Specifically, the author examined the nature, characteristics, and evidence of instructional differentiation included in the work samples prepared by preservice teachers. Six themes emerge from this study into the extent to which preservice teachers plan for the instruction for students with disabilities in the general education classroom.
